Azkar Saeed Ahmad

Research Fellow

Dr. Azkar Saeed Ahmad joined GTIIT as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in December 2021. He received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, China. Following his PhD degree, in 2017, he went to SUSTech as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Physics. In April 2021 he moved to Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) as a postdoctoral researcher. He has had the experience of performing synchrotron radiation experiments at BSRF, SSRF, DESY, and ALS.  At GTIIT, he mainly focuses on the synthesis of novel and technologically important materials under pressure using diamond anvil cells and large volume presses. He characterizes thus synthesized materials using in-situ diffraction (x-ray and neutron diffraction), vibrational spectroscopy, and electrical measurements techniques. He is also looking forward to the development of the high pressure-temperature instruments.

Logan Magad-Weiss

PhD Student

My name is Logan Magad-Weiss, and I  joint GTIIT as a PhD student on November 2021.      I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois in the United States. I earned my BSc in Geology & Geophysics from University of Hawaii Manoa in 2016. Following my bachelor's degree, I went on to get my master's in Geological Sciences (Geochemistry) at University of California Riverside in 2019. My research there focused on studying various geochemical and isotopic systems from a group of 2.046 Ga rocks in the Northwest Territories of Canada in order to understand the oxygenation state of the Earth during a volatile period in the aftermath of the Great Oxygenation Event (GOE). From there, I went on to work at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory during a long-term internship in the Materials Science Division studying polymers and materials under high pressure. Outside of work I enjoy playing basketball and going to the beach.

Elissaios Stavrou

Prof. Elissaios Stavrou joint GTIIT in March 2021. He received his Ph.D. from National Technical University of Athens in Greece. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Max Planck Institute for solid state research  and Geophysical Laboratory/Carnegie institution of Washington. In 2014 he joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a staff scientist in the Materials Science Division.

He was the PI of several programmatic and basic research projects and received numerous awards for excellence in publication, outstanding mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and the Weapons and Complex Integration Gold Award. Very recently he received the prestigious Research and Development 100 (2020) award in Process/Prototyping  for “Versatile Cold Spray”.

Prof. Stavrou has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers,  several in top journals: Science, Nature chemistry and communications, Physical Review Letters etc. He was invited to present his research at several conferences and colloquia, including the high-pressure Gordon Research conference and the APS March meeting.
